VETERINARY LASER SURGERY Veterinary Laser Surgery has become a significant advancement in veterinary surgical technique far surpassing conventional surgery. Lasers make incisions more precise, and result in less bleeding, less pain, and a faster recovery for your Pet. PennHIP EVALUATION
PennHIP is a multifaceted radiographic technology (x-ray) for hip evaluation. The technique assesses the quality of the canine hip and quantitatively measures canine hip joint laxity. The PennHIP method of evaluation is more accurate than the current standard in its ability to predict the onset of osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease (DJD), is the hallmark of canine hip dysplasia. Dr. Smith is one of an elite group of Veterinarians in the United States who are certified to perform PennHIP evaluations. This procedure utilizes a "distraction index" based on the percent of the femoral head (ball of the hip joint) that lies outside the acetabulum (socket of the hip joint). When a distracting force, using special equipment, is applied to the joint, a dog's hip dysplasia can be determined. PennHIP evaluation may be done as early as 4 months of age.
